Last year in March/April we sponsored an event called "The Rally for America" to demonstrate support for our troops when the left and the media were trying to propagandize and derail that effort. Over a month's time there were over 200 rallies held in cities around the country with most of them posted on our RFA website. Some were organized by people like Glenn Beck and Clear Channel, many of them organized by chapters in Free Republic and other associated groups. Our estimate had over 250,000 people attending these rallies and marches.

This year, we have teamed up with FIT-AIM-ACT, the SAFE Foundation, Move America Forward and other groups to launch the "National March Against Terror" on September 11. I have nowhere in any of my post suggested, or even eluded to faith based groups being discriminated against. That is something you have conjured up.

What I have said is that I want the Constitution upheld under the 1st Amendment. I want government out of the religion business and I want religion, which I cannot imagine why any self respecting church would want the government in their church, out of government business.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Now you're going to get someone saying that "evolution" (or maybe "evolutinism or some similar bastardization) "can be dangerous for your health" with a reference to Nazi Germany or some other horrific event that was not actually based on the theory of evolution but is often wrongly attributed to the theory by ignorant creationists.

Your whole post is a keeper. Perhaps on your freeper homepage. You've stated the apparent religion/science conflict as well as I've ever seen it expressed. Well done. However, I suspect there will always be unknowns for which religion can -- and perhaps should -- provide comforting answers. But they will be "first cause" isues, at the unexplored frontier of origins questions, and not in the everyday nuts and bolts of the natural world. Those who focus on the trivia, such as the bombadier beetle and the platypus, are doomed to disappointment.

In my opinion, what we should be going about now is finding practical non- theistic substitutes for the valuable institutions and ideas over which religion once held full sway.

I think that's the sort of thing that Ayn Rand's philosophy of Objectivism was an attempt to work out. She did rather well with it, although there are still kinks to be worked out. Anyway, if mysticism ultimately withers as most of its traditional explanations are superseded by demonstrable natural processes, there is still a great role for philosophy, of which ethics is an essential component.
